LSAMP Year End Celebration
Wednesday, May 30, 2018 from 5:30-7:30pm at Petra
LSAMP will be hosting it's annual Year End Celebration on Wednesday, May 30th from 5:30-7:30pm at Petra on Higuera Street! This event is free for LSAMP participants, however, non-LSAMP participants are encouraged to attend for a recommended donation of $5-10.

National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) National Convention
Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania | March 21-25, 2018
The convention demonstrates NSBE’s commitment to lead the United States in graduating 10,000 Black engineers annually by 2025.
The Annual Convention showcases Black students and professionals who have a passion for STEM, who are high achievers in these fields and who are channeling their dedication to advance their communities and society at large. #NSBE44 will attract more than 10,000 aspiring and practicing engineers, educators, representatives of more than 200 academic institutions, government agencies, corporations and nonprofit organizations.
The convention will feature high-profile speakers, panel discussions, dynamic workshops, networking sessions, community engagement events, technical and scientific competitions, hands-on engineering and science activities and the premier career fair geared toward African Americans in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM).

The National Conference on Undergraduate Research 2018 embraces the vital relationship between a university and its community in the conference theme, Connection to Place, recognizing the increasing need for direct relevance of an educational experience to the communities that await the college graduate in 2018 and beyond.
The Council on Undergraduate Research is strongly committed to the wide expression of all forms and topics of undergraduate research, by all members of the undergraduate research community, and views with great concern any actions or policies that affect that commitment to inclusivity.
Northern California Forum for Diversity in Graduate Education

Each California Forum for Diversity in Graduate Education will bring together approximately 1,000 pre-selected, high-achieving undergraduate and master's students. The students will explore graduate opportunities and resources by participating in numerous workshops conducted throughout the day. Universities and individual graduate programs offering academic master's and/or Ph.D. degrees are welcome to participate in recruitment fairs that will take place concurrently with the other planned activities. Note that these events are for all disciplines except programs in medicine, dentistry, optometry, chiropractic, pharmacy, veterinary science, and law, all of which have their own recruiting networks.

ABRCMS: Annual Biomedical Research Conference for Minority Students
Indianapolis, Indiana | November 14-17, 2018
When you attend the Annual Biomedical Research Conference for Minority Students (ABRCMS), you join one of the largest communities of underrepresented minorities in science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Students attend this conference to present their research, explore graduate schools, and network. Research faculty and program directors play an essential role in mentoring students and developing strategies for facilitating student success.
During the four-day conference, over 2,000 students from over 350 colleges and universities participate in poster and oral presentations in twelve STEM disciplines. All undergraduate student presentations are judged and those receiving the highest scores in each scientific discipline will be given an award during the closing banquet.

This publication includes a feature of Cal Poly's outstanding LSAMP students and highlights their achievements as PROUD (Program Recognizing Outstanding Undergraduate Distinction) Scholars.

Undocumented Student Working Group Trainings
The working group offers a three-part training series focused on supporting undocumented students.
- The Foundational Knowledge Training (Training 1) provides participants with knowledge on how to best support undocumented students in accordance with CA and federal law. This training is one hour and is often offered during the lunch hour!
- The second installment will focus on Taking the Next Steps (Training 2) in supporting undocumented students within your respective office/department/program. This training is two hours.
- The third installment is focused on Becoming an Ally (Training 3) to this population of students and thinking about institutional change. This training is also two hours.

LSAMP Bridge to Doctorate Programs
Do you plan to pursue a PhD, but earning an MS along the way makes sense and you need support?
LSAMP offers "Bridge to Doctorate" programs at several different universities! The benefits of Bridge to Doctorate programs include:
- Tuition, fees and student health insurance waiver for first two years
- Stipend of $30,000 annually for first two years
- Level funding in years 3, 4, & 5 if qualified to advance to PhD
- Faculty mentoring
- Participation in professional conferences and meetings
- Links to research and professional opportunities
- Enriched academic services and support
